FREE WRITE ON ETHICS
I FEEL THAT WHAT THIS MAN DID WAS WRONG. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. YOU CAN'T SUGAR COAT THE TRUTH. I BELIEVE JOURNALIST HAVE A BINDING CONTRACT TO TELL THE TRUTH, NO MATTER WHAT. DO WE SEE THIS BEHAVIOR HAPPENING MORE AND MORE? YES. TAKE A LOOK AT SOCIETY AROUND US. INSIDER TRADING, BLOOD DOPING, AND EVEN FICTION IN JOURNALISM. EVERYBODY WANTS TO GRAB THE BRASS RING BUT WHO WANTS TO PUT IN THE HARD WORK. I FIND IT FUNNY THAT THIS JOURNALIST WAS GREATLY TALENTED AND IF HE WOULD OF PUT IN HALF THE AMOUNT OF WORK HE DID IN FABRICATING THOSE STORIES , THE TRUE STORIES WOULD OF BEEN JUST AS GREAT IF NOT BETTER. ALOT OF PEOPLE DO WHAT HE DID IN TRYING TO CAPTURE THE GRAND PRIZE, BY TAKING SHORT CUTS. IN HIND SIGHT , HE PROBABLY WOULDN'T OF DONE IT, BUT ISN'T THAT THE WAY FOR ALOT OF PEOPLE. ONLY TO GAIN THAT PERSPECTIVE AFTER THAT SOMEONE IS CAUGHT, NOT BEFORE. IT'S A  SAD COMMENTARY OF SOCIETY BUT ALTHOUGH A TRUE ONE.

No Greater Sacrifice

I’m going to attempt to put you in my shoes and stand right where I did, to let you see what I saw and hear everything I heard but the only difference is it’s going to be 36 years later. In 1978 I enlisted in the United States Navy and graduated from the Navy Training Center in San Diego, California. I then completed my technical training in Orlando, Florida and finished first in my class. For this accomplishment I was given the opportunity to pick anywhere in the world for my first duty assignment. Of course being a California boy, the choice for me was an easy one. I chose Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and in October of 1978 I arrived wide eyed and with the anticipation of a 6 year old waiting for Christmas morning.

After a 5 hour flight over nothing but a blue ocean, I could see the bright lights of Waikiki beach and all the hotels as we descended down into Oahu international airport. As the passengers left the plane, we darted as if we were running a race in the Olympics. We all couldn’t get off that plane fast enough, ready to enjoy all that this tropical paradise had to offer. I remember the aroma of salt water mixed with the warm tropic breeze coming off the Pacific Ocean. I’ll never forget that scent of the ocean for as long as I live. At the bottom of the stairway off the plane you are greeted by a line of Hawaiian wahini’s, (Hawaiian for women) that greets you with a bright floral lei placed around your neck. The perfumed bouquet emanating from the lei’s wafts into your olfactory senses and a smile appeared on my face as wide as the Mississippi river.

The ride to Pearl Harbor Naval Base in the back of a bright yellow taxi takes a quick 10 minutes. As I first saw all the ships berthed at the piers I was simply in awe. The standard navy grey paint job on all the ships that included 400 foot fast frigates, a little bigger, the destroyers and then the almighty beast of the sea, the aircraft carrier. This ship is over a quarter mile in length and it appeared to climb to the stars as it rose upward. I walked on the gangplank onto my ship for the first time and that’s when I saw the Arizona Memorial. I’m not ashamed to say it was a very emotional moment for me. I had seen pictures of it in magazines; saw it on the television news, but seeing it up close, my mind quickly filled with the realization that I was standing in the same exact spot where thousands of military men and women fought bravely against the Japanese aircraft that viciously attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7 1941. The overwhelming feeling of camaraderie and patriotism swept over my body as powerful as an electrical current surging from my toes to my head. I told myself then and there that I would make it a priority not only to go see the memorial but to also pay my deepest respect and appreciation for those that paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

The attack on Pearl Harbor occurred on Dec 7 1941. It was on a Sunday morning when the first Japanese aircraft started their attack on the naval base in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. There were 185 US Pacific Fleet vessels moored in Pearl Harbor that morning, including battleships, destroyers and fast frigates. The first wave of Japanese aircraft consisting of bombers and zeroes were launched some 230 miles off the northern coast of Oahu. At approximately 7:02 in the morning, the Opona radar installation reports a large formation of aircraft heading to Oahu but was dismissed as a group of friendly B-17 aircraft flying from the mainland. The actual attack was 53 minutes later and by 10:30 am, 21 vessels were sunk or damaged by the Japanese. A total of 2,390 people were killed or mortally wounded by the end of the attack and Japan had officially declared war on the United States and Great Britain. The USS ARIZONA took the most destructive barrage of the attack of all battleships that were moored on battleship row. The USS ARIZONA received 3 near misses and 4 direct hits from 800 kg Japanese bombs. The ship sunk in a matter of 9 minutes. The total loss of life onboard the USS ARIZONA was 1,177 servicemen and was the greatest loss of life on a naval warship in American history.

According to the National Park Service, the Arizona Memorial sits atop of the sunken USS ARIZONA, in the exact location where the ship sank some 73 years ago. The architect, Mr. Alfred Preis states the design of the memorial as follows; “wherein the structure sags in the center but stands strong and vigorous at the ends, expresses initial defeat and then ultimate victory “. The memorial is 184 feet in length and spans the midpoint of the sunken battleship. The brightness of the white color of the memorial contrasts greatly with the hues of the blueness of the water. It consist of three areas; the entry room, the assembly room and the shrine room. The shrine room is where the names of the entire fallen are engraved in marble. President Dwight D Eisenhower approved the creation of the memorial in 1958. Construction started in 1961 with public funds and private donations and was finally dedicated in 1962. The USS ARIZONA is not in commission but as a special tribute to the ship and her lost crew, the US flag flies from the flagpole, which is attached to the severed mast of the sunken battleship. In the assembly room on the memorial you can see personal memorability, dramatic photographs and artifacts of the battle of Pearl Harbor. There is a model of the Japanese aircraft carrier ( IMS AKAGI ) that launched the attack and another model of the USS ARIZONA before the attack.

As someone who has seen this memorial in person, I can tell you that I have never felt anything more emotional in my life. I can only compare it to the ground zero memorial in New York City. It actually brought me to tears seeing all the photographs and artifacts of the attack on Pearl Harbor. I recommend anyone who has the chance, to take the time and take the tour of the memorial. The visitor center located on the shore has 2 theaters, a museum and a bookstore. It includes 23 different documentary films and was not only informative but was an awe inspiring, life changing event that I doubt I will ever reproduce in my life time. The vast array of emotions I felt that day included anger, sadness, pride, patriotism and love of my country. I felt so proud to be an American that day, I stood a little taller, talked a little louder and smiled a little bigger.

DESCRIBE THE COLOR OF CRAYON I FEEL LIKE TODAY

YOU ASKED ME WHAT COLOR I WOULDF DESCRIBE MYSELF TODAY AND I MUST ANSWER COBALT GREY. VARIOUS EVENTS THAT ARE PRESENTLY OCCURING IN MY LIFE MAKES ME FEEL DEPRESSED AND GLOOMY , SO WHAT BETTER COLOR THAN GREY. i SHOULD CONSIDER MYSELF FORTUNATE BECAUSE FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS I WOULD OF DESCRIBED MIDNIGHT BLACK.
I'M NOT SAYING THAT THINGS HAVE CHANGED THAT DRAMATIC BUT MORE OF THE WAY I CHOOSE TO LOOK AT MY CURRENT SITUATIONS.
THEIRS A SAYING THAT YOU CAN'T SEE THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL.
WELL FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME THERE IS NO TUNNEL, NO LIGHT!
IT REMINDS ME  OF A DEEP DARK HOLE. SO FAR DOWN YOU CAN'T EVEN SEE A PINPOINT OF LIGHT.
THERES NO HOPE, NO WISHING, NO "THINGS ARE GOING TO GET BETTER" TYPE OF ATTITUDE.
IT'S JUST DARKNESS WITH NO CHANCE OF ESCAPE.
BLEAK!

Movie review

Usually I just sit here outside this building watching the events occur around me 24 hours every day. Today was definitely a different day than all the rest. A man approaches me wearing a black suit and dark sunglasses. As he sits down upon me I can smell the aroma coming from the round oval object that he is holding. Suddenlt out of nowhere a greyish winged animal swoops down from the sky and lands atop my backrest. This winged beast is staring intensly at either the man in the black suit and sunglasses or the round oval object that is emitting this destinct aroma. The man tosses a small piece of that object onto the ground. The winged beast stares at the item on the ground but quickly turns his attention back to the man. Out of nowhere the winged beast suddenly starts flapping his wings ferociously at the man as he stands up and tries to deflect this attack. He quickly tosses this ringed item and lands inside this shiny square box that has his lid open . The winged beast flies over to the shiny box and they both fall off of me and onto the ground. The lid closes abruptly as they hit the ground. I can hear certain muffled noises coming from inside this shiny box but do not they seem foriegn to me. The box suddenly has items propelling out on top of the box and I can see whispers of smoke and loud crackling noises all around me. Cars in the street are evasively trying to dodge these whispers of smoke and each other as they careen out of control in front of me. The shiny box lays in the middle of the street and its top opens up and the winged beast appears, staring ever so intesley at the man in the black suit who is holding the ringed oval shape item in his extended left arm. Suddenly the winged beast swoops towaqrd the oval item and a clicking sound is heard just ever so faintly. The box closes and way off in the distance a large bulding transforms itself into a fiery ball of flame and smoke propelling itself higher and higher towars the stars I usually see only at night. The man seems to have pushed a button and him and the shiny box propell after the large building heading toward the heavens. I can't see much because of the altitude that all three have reached but I hear a loud explosion and a big plume of greyish black smoke high in the sky. The man in the dark suit descends from the sky still clutching the shiny box. The winged beast sits on the grey concete beside me eating this circular item as I hear a loud noise and seeing a large white piece of metal,  but no signn of the winged beast.

Picture of the sky

This picture reminds me of the many sunrise and sunsets I saw when I was on  a ship in the navy.Theres usually nothing but you and many miles of unobstructed views of the sea. There is nothing quite like the vibrant colors of a sunrise or a sunset. For some reason it always made me feel closer to mother nature. The brillant intensity of the yellow of the sun contrasting with the many different hues of the blue sky and the darker blues of the ocean always made me feel mother nature had painted this picture just for my enjoyment.

Memories of mayonnaise bread

Before my wife passed away two years ago, she and our daughter would make mayonnaise bread at least a few times each year. I had never heard about this type of bread before but after I had tried it I fell in love with it. I do not the process of making this bread. This was something that my daughter and her mother did together. I felt that this was something that was a bonding moment between them and did not want to jump in and somehow take that special time they shared together away from them. Me and my daughter share the same birthday. Greatest gift I'd ever received. So my daughter and I have always had this special bond that unfortunately her mother at times probably felt a little left out. By them making this bread together, I felt it was her mothers way of them having this special bonding time. Like I said before she passed away two years ago and I can remember my daughter telling me she was going to make this mayonnaise bread for dinner. It was one of the saddest emotional days  in my life. As I sat in the living room I could hear my daughter going through the process of making this bread and her talking out loud like her mother was standing right next to her. The sound of her crying as she she talked to her mother made my heart break in pieces. I finally couldn't take it anymore so I entered the kitchen only to find her curled up in the fetal position sobbing  and crying holding on to the stainless steel mixing bowl on the floor of our kitchen. I joined her on the floor throwing my arms around her trying desperately to somehow take the pain away. I failed at that attempt. Her attempt at making this bread was unsuccessfull and she felt terrible. I tried to tell her it was alright and she was successfull and how brave I thought she was at trying to make this bread

DESCRIBE COOKING A MEAL

I asked my daughter to make some mayonaisse bread. She learned this from her mother who had passed way two years ago. She attempted to start the process but broke down in tears right from the start. I could tell that by making this bread it brought up some bad feelings of remorse and loss of her mother. All I could do was to hug her as tightly as i could, tell her that I loved her and no matter what her mother was looking down from heaven with a smile on her face and love in  her heart. We never did make that bread but we made something else and that was a bonding of our love for her and how much we both missed her.

I will never do that again

The first thing that comes to mind is how I spoiled my daughter. I thought by giving her everything she wanted and never saying no to her was the ideal way to raise her. I am sadly mistaken. She doesn't have a clue about life or making the right choices in life. She now expects everything to be given to her and when she doesn't get her way she throws a temper tantrum that I would expect from a 4 year old. I always thought by giving her everytrhing she ever wanted would make her a happy person but just the opposite has occured.

The typical response to that question is that my daughter is beautiful but is seriously lacking any common sense. She acts and does things that a person would relate to her having that hair color. Beautiful like a model but the common sense of a box of rocks. In fact a box of rocks doesn't try to be lawn furniture. The box of rocks knows its just a box of rocks and doesnt try to be anything else but a box of rocks.

When the little one didn't get her way she started to scream and yell as she laid on the floor kicking and crying. It was an embarrassing sight to see but a common occurrence when ever i'm out in public like in a toy store. She definitely wanted something she wasn't going to get and her acting out was her way of not getting what see wanted.

That describes how I felt this morning. My daughter spent the night at a friends house and was suppose to give me a ride to school. She knew I had to be at school by 10:00 and I had called her at nine to make sure she had plenty of time to pick me up . As you saw this morning, I was late by ten or fifteen minutes. I asked her why she was late and she told me to shut up and not talk to her. If I ever attempted to speak that way to my father I would still wouldn't be able to sit down. It got so bad I opened the door on chestnut expressway and while dodging traffic I finished walking the rest of the way to school.

Cooking story

I myself very seldom cook. OK to be honest I never cook. So I'm going to describe my wife cooking something called mayonnaise bread with my daughter. My wife past away 2 years ago and I never took the time to help her cook but when she made me this mayonnaise bread for the first time it was one of the most delicious things I have ever enjoyed. Thank god for my wife showing my daughter how to cook this bread. Each year whenever she gets the feeling she cooks me this bread. We sit around the table, enjoying our dinner , eating our mayonnaise bread and always telling stories about her mother. No matter how much we miss her, it always brings a smile to our face and a glow in our heart sitting there eating our bread and reminiscing about all the good times we remember together.
The place I'd rather be is on a beach in hawaii. As you fly into Oahu you first notice the crystal clear blue waters of the waves contrasting against the white sands of the waikiki beach. In the background the enormous diamond head volcano erupts upward toward the sky. Most of the island is a contrast of colors. The green foilage of the pineapple fields engulf alot of the islands. The high rise of all the hotels are in a constant battle for space against the blue ocean and the white beach sands of waikiki.
Because of the limited area available on the island everywhere you turn something is in constant battle with something else for space. As you visit different parts of the island your sense at times seem overwhelming. The smell of salt water engulfs you as soon as you leave the plane. Tall green palm trees sway back and forth with the warm tropic breeze. Last but not least is the crowds of tourist walking along the beach or shops all sporting bright tropical colors of their hawaiian shirts and wearing bright floral leis.

favorite words

As our plane descended, I could see the lights from Heathrow airport below. It reminded me of butter. A nice warm tannish color arose from the darkness. My daughter has always wanted to see England and now finally I've been able to make her dream come true. She feels alittle knackered from the flight but is ready to go see the sights. I myself feel a little wonky from the long flight. As we depart the plane and walk toward the baggage area I could see a quagmire before us. I also could hear the travalers spouting out obscenities like arse, funk, shite and bloddyhell. I just laughed alittle bit under my breath because of there accents but was glad to have my feet on the ground. We retrieved our luggage and proceeded to the car rental place passing by all the kiosk that had their different widgets for sale. I thought I could pick something up on when we flew back to the states. I wouldn't spend alot of money but I wanted to pick somethig up to remember our trip. The rental car agent walked us to our car and attempted to start the car but instead I heard bullocks from the agent. I asked what was wrong and he said he would take a look under the hood. Of course my daughter stuck her head under a shmidge looking around and the first words were  "whats that thingy"? I again had a chuckle. The agent moved a couple of wires and the car started right up. Lickety split we were on the road to our hotel. Usually I would of been the one under the hood trying to fix the problem. It's just my fungo or philosophy of life where I like to do things myself. We woke the next morning and my daughter right away asked where was the beach. I stated I don't know and asked why. She said she wanted to feel bubbles from the surf between her toes. I replied you can take the girl out of California but you can't take California out of the girl.

Why I Live the Way I Live

I believe that we all have a set of beliefs, values, or principles that guide us through our daily lives. They can be as different as the stars in the sky or can be shared as a common thread or motivating factor within a group of people with a common goal. I feel that most people’s beliefs, values, and principles follow a positive path and help us as a society in the way we choose to interact with each other throughout the world. The question of do people believe in negative beliefs, values, or principles can be a difficult one to answer. Not so long ago people showed respect based on the color of your skin, your sexual preference, or even your gender. I believe in the past some people would classify those as negative values, beliefs, or principles but it seems apparent to me that society’s beliefs changed becoming more tolerant and respectful of the rights of all people and the way they choose to live their lives. My personal core belief of respect tops my list. My parents taught this concept beyond all others, and put great importance on it and I chose it to be the cornerstone of my beliefs. Respect can be shown in a gesture like the way you talk to someone or how you treat someone, but it can take many forms.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines respect in several ways such as;” feeling of admiring someone or something that is good, valuable, important, and or a feeling or understanding that someone or something is important, serious, etc., and should be treated in an appropriate way”.  I choose first and foremost to start with the attitude that we all people do not believe the same and our beliefs and values may be different but we as individuals and as a society are entitled to own set of beliefs. To deny someone or something their right to believe the way they choose and to live their life accordingly would deny them the basic right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Throughout history people have fought and sacrificed in their attempt to gain the respect and right to believe in their personal beliefs and live their lives according to those values.

I was raised in an era that the nation and its people believed differently and they openly and proudly displayed their personal beliefs and protested for change. I can remember the nightly news on the television and seeing college campuses filled with students coming together with common goals and beliefs and showing their support in peaceful demonstrations and marches. The Vietnam War was a prime example where a group of people did not agree with the government’s views and policies and took to the streets to voice their opposition and desire for change. Looking back, it appeared that people forgot about the respect factor. The respect for everyone’s right to exercise free speech. The older generation and the government saw the protestors as un-patriotic and they attempted to somehow undermine the goals of the administration at that time. It couldn’t have been farther from the truth. I can remember Kent State University as one location where two opposing forces collided with deadly results. Some college kids died because of an overzealous National Guard that were armed and who subsequently fired upon the protesters just because one side could not show the other side due respect. That simple principle of respect or lack thereof changed the lives of so many so quickly. I do feel that society’s changing attitude of ensuring no matter what our own beliefs; we honor and respect the right of those whose beliefs differ. I also believe that we as a world bear a long way to go.

I learned not only to respect other people but to show respect toward all other things, living and not living. I feel that the Native American Indian understood the idea of respect for all things and they showed it in the way they lived. They never killed more buffalo than they needed and they understood the delicate balance between them and nature. It appears to me that they had mastered the concept of respect and they understood the repercussions of living their lives without respect.  My father instilled in me to also respect items that I had purchased such as a car or a house. To have worked and saved enough to buy an item and to not take care of that item would be a sign of disrespect. To respect those things meant to take care of something. To place value on something so as to treat it without respect, that item would suffer or diminish somehow in its value, importance or worth.

Today’s society comprises many groups of people that one desire is to be shown some form of respect in what they deem to be important to them.  Groups like Greenpeace and PETA that put value on all animal life and try to effect change by informing and demonstrating their core belief. There’s groups that seek nothing more than the wanting desire to protect mother earth and its resources. Included also are people that their main goal consist to somehow affect a response of respect toward a value or principal that they feel passionate about. Can someone say one group’s beliefs matter any less important than another’s?  I personally don’t think so, but all we have to do is take a look around the world and it is apparent that many do not believe in the same definition of respect as I do.

It’s up to all of us to embrace the simple ideology of mutual respect toward all. As I continue on my personal journey through this world, I regretfully watch the slow demise and ultimately the possible extinction of things that as a child I took for granted. I think others feel this pain as I do. We have put such and importance on money and the acquisition thereof; we suffer as a society and we will continue to lose things that we already know we cannot replace. To me, the knowledge of companies that exist today that put a higher importance on profit than they do on the irreversible damage their committing on a rainforest is disrespectful.  The realization that the annihilation of complete species that have yet to be discovered or refusal to understand the magnitude of the destruction of an entire eco-system is a sad commentary of where some of our society place’s its importance. I will continue to offer and show respect to all that I come in contact with and hopefully society as a whole will do the same. With some 6 billion people on this planet, all with their own beliefs, values, and principles, we need to start with the concept of respect first. Without the aim or goal of mutual respect, I believe that society will eventually suffer the consequences and the outcome and the effects will be everlasting.

physical and personality traits

The person I'm deascribing is tall and muscular. He has a mustache. He has blond hair and looks atheletic. He has green eyes and wears glasses. His skin is dark complexion and has a scar on his forehead. He walks with a slight limp and has a cast on his left arm.
Some of his personality traits include he looks like a happy person. He is quiet as he reads his book and looks confused as he reads. He is helpful as he gets up to open the door for someone and is sociable as he says your welcome to the person he opened the door for. He sits relaxed in the chair but a look of sadness comes over his face as he reads a passage in his book. As I watch him he seems organized at he takes notes and a look of satisfaction comes over his face as he completes his studying.

corrected copy

His tall muscular body looks like he plays sports or works out on a consistent basis. The full mustache he sports resembles Tom Selleck. The blond hair and dark complexion is the first indication that his job is a lifeguard. Theres a scar on his forehead and walks with a slight limp that maybe he recieved from his attempt at saving someone at the beach where he works. The cast on his arm is glowing white compared to his dark skin. He wears a smile that makes him appear happy. He looks confused while he reads his book but his silence and intensity makes him look like he's totally engulfed in his reading. He gets up to open the door for someone and replys your welcome to a stranger that makes him seem sociable and courteous.  He relaxes in his chair and a look of satisfaction comes over his face while he reads a passage from his book. His organization skills while he takes notes apparently help in his studying. A look of satisfaction comes over his face upon his completion of his studying.

I'VE ALWAYS APPROACHED LIFE THE SAME WAY I WAS RAISED. TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED BY OTHERS. PLAIN AND SIMPLE IT'S ALL ABOUT RESPECT. THAT WORD RESPECT ENCOMPASSES SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS TO SHOW IT. IT CAN BE BY SAYING PLEASE AND THANK YOU. IT COULD BE BY BEING COURTEOUS OR BY JUST THE WAY YOU TALK TO PEOPLE. TODAYS GENERATION IT SEEMS TO ME TO HAVE FORGOTTEN THAT WORD AND WE AS A SOCITY LOSS SOMETHING TO. CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT THE WORLD WOULD BE LIKE IF EVERYONE TREATED EVERYBODY WITH RESPECT. I DOUBT WE IN OUR LIFE TIME WILL EVER SEE IT HAPPEN. SO MANY PEOPLE CAN'T FIND IT IN THERE HEART AND SOUL TO RESPECT THE RIGHTS OF SOME OTHER CULTURE AND LET OTHER PEOPLE LIVE THW WAY THEY WANT TO. I'M NOT SAYING THAT WE SHOULD ALLOW OTHER COUNTRIES OR PEOPLES TO ACT IN VIOLENT OR OPRESSIVE WAY'S BUT EVER SINCE I WAS BORN I CAN REMEMBER AT NO TIME THERE WASN'T A WAR TAKING PLACE SOMEWHERE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. IT SEEMS THAT ONE CULTURE WILL ALWAYS TRY AND ENFORCE THEIR BELIEFS AND VALUES ON PEOPLE THAT HAVE A DIFFERENT SET OF BELIEFS AND IT ALWAYS ENDS IN BLOODSHED. TALK TO PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TALKED TO. TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED.

FREE WRITING ON AN EMPTY QUARTER WRAPPER DENOMINATION $10.00

As I sit and stare at this empty coin wrapper and memories come back from my youth. Back when I was growing up me and brother and sister used to sit around a table with all the pennies we could save or find and first count out 50 pennies and then attempt to insert the coins into the wrapper. First off, you had to have your first and last name written legibly along with your address. What a pain in the butt that used to be. Now a days I would think except for banks and such no one uses these wrappers any more. If you go into any grocery store or supermarket you can usually find a coin counting machine , that all you have to do is pour all your change into the machines trough and as quick as can be the machine separates all the different denominations and counts each coin and shows you your total . The only thing left to do is push a button and out comes your currency in paper type money. Wow, how we have advanced since my youth. Whenever I start to daydream about stuff like that my imagination runs wild with guessing what will life be like in the next 5, 10 or even 20 years. I can't imagine what new maybe yet to be discovered new fangled gizmo that will have an ever life changing effect on the people of the future.

FREE WRITING ON A HAND CRAFTED BRACELET WITH BEADS

The item that I picked turned out to be a small wrist bracelet with a key ring holder attached. It consist of three colors, including red, white, and blue. It is a handmade item, I imagine from a young girl anywhere in the age of 12 to 14 years of age. It could of been a present or something someone had made themselves. Items like this can be found every where and at anytime. The different list of its history are too numerous to list. It might have been a bracelet some daughter sent to her dad over in IRAQ. It could of came from a 6th  graders art class. Can you imagine the endless stories that this item could of have on it's journey to meet with me this morning of Feb 10m 2013 at 10:15 am. I think alot about things like that. I guess I have always had an active imagination so it doesn't surprise me that this is how I attempted to free write on this item that I randomly drew without sight out of a box. The stories that it could tell if only it had a way of communication, I probably would be surprised at the actual story.

Freewrite response on " I believe in always going to the funeral"

I believe in always going to the funeral
I read this article and it became a little personal to me. I can remember when I was in the fourth grade and my teacher Mrs. Latronica had committed suicide. We came from a small town so every one knew everyone.. They had funeral services for her at a local church and can remember going with my mom and brothers and sisters. My dad flatly refused to go. He said that anyone that commits suicide should not have the right to have there services in a church. Not knowing my father as a devout church going, bible reading, god fearing man, this surprised me. That memory still haunts me till today. My teacher had two daughters, one my age and one the age of my little sister. My heart was filled with so much compassion, not knowing what to say but knowing in my mind how hard this had to be for those girls and wondering how could it ever get any better for them. I disagree with this article that seems to promote always go to the funeral It would be nice for everyone to have that attitude but I will never think like that. I feel it is up to the individual if they want to go or not go. I feel that it's not who or how many show up for my funeral but who and how many people I affected on some sort of positive realm.
I would agree that human society's needs creeds. I would disagree that creeds can be negative. I feel that the purpose of a creed is a statement of beliefs or values. If you start your creed in a negative way, what does that say about your beliefs. Now I would agree that creeds can sometimes divide as well as unite. I will say that just as everyone has the right to there credo, so does the people have the right to disagree and believe in something else. The definition of credo is "any formal or authorized statement of beliefs, principles, or opinions."
I will agree that we all have the right to believe in every ones own credo, unless for example it goes against what the United States of America stands for. Take the terrorist cell the JI HAD, or should I say a terrorist organization, don't they say it says in the KORAN "death to infidels" and if you become a martyr by strapping 25 lbs of c-4 on your body and go blow up you and as many people as you can that you will be rewarded with 72 virgins?

EXERCISE ONE

I spent a little time doing some research on J.F.K.s various credos while he was president and was not surprised by what I had found. He was the president of the United States of America in 1960 and the country was in an uproar. There was the start of the Vietnam war, the drug culture was alive and growing, their was a  battle of segregation going on down in the south and let's not forget the millions of college kids and the like who were protesting against the war, there was the space race to see what country could orbit around the moon. It could not of been a more controversial time between the government and the younger generation of the nation. Someone finally figured out there is power in numbers. To summarize J.F.K.s political credo, "I believe in human dignity as the source of national purpose, in human liberty as the source of national action, in the human heart as the source of national compassion, and in the human mind as the source of our invention and our ideas". He also in 1961 had another credo called the "Affirmative Action Plan". It tried to deal with the subject of prejudice. In short it read, to prevent discrimination against employees and applicants for employment on basis of "color, religion, sex, or national origin". You asked if some examples like the preamble to the Constitution or Greenpeace use statements of beliefs to identify themselves. Of course they do.  Greenpeace's credo says "to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all it's diversity and focus it's campaigning on world wide issues such as global warming, deforestation, and overfishing to name a few. The definition of credo says it is "any formal or authorized statement of beliefs, principles, or opinions". I feel we all have some form of credo ,no matter how big or small, how political, social or religious  they are. I don't think I've ever met someone without his or hers  personal credo. I guess it might be possible but I think I might recognize someone who doesn't give morals and values a high priority or at all.

My Personal Credo

MY PERSONAL CREDO

Being one of the oldest students in class, if not the oldest I imagine my values and beliefs are going to be vastly different then the majority of my classmates. My personal credo starts off with being truthful and honest. Without this basic premise I believe nothing else can grow from it. I say what I mean and I mean what I say. If more people tried just to be honest and truthful what a world we would live in. Another important value to me comes from a J.F.K quote, "ask not what your country can do for you but what can I do for my country". I feel if we all would take a look around and lend a hand to some one less fortunate than ourselves, that attitude would snowball into a force that would unstoppable. Another value I try and practice daily is to never give up. I've told my daughter from when she could first understand that if you get up in the morning and stand up and put that left foot forward and then follow it up with your right foot, and just continue on toward your goal, no matter how many obstacles you run into or however long it takes, you will succeed. Treat people the same way you want to be treated. Always try to show respect, compassion, courtesy in all that you meet and usually those actions will be given right back to you.

LIST OF ITEMS ON " WHAT IF "

What if ...
There was peace on earth
There was no hunger in the world
There was no poverty
I won the lottery
We didn't live in the USA
I didn't get my college degree
I was born at a different time and place
There was another civilization from another planet
We didn't have all the modern technology
We had the cure for cancer
I didn't believe in God
There was no war
There was no crime

What if I was born at a different time or place. If I was born back in the 1800's, I believe I would be a different person altogether. Back then people had alot less to rely on. There was no grocery stores for example. Whatever you wanted to eat you had to either grow or kill. People were a lot more self reliant than in today's society. I'm not saying it was better or worse but just a product of our times. You had to first build yourself shelter from the elements, and to do that you first had to either cut down your own wood or some other product to make yourself shelter. It would of been difficult to attempt this on your own, so I believe we relied on the other people in our immediate surroundings for help. It would have to be a two way street. In order for you to get help you in turn would have to help someone else out. I believe we have lost alot of that attitude in today's society. It seems to be more about what can I do to help myself than what can I do to help out my neighbor. I feel that if we had more of that attitude of neighbor helping neighbor, friend helping friend, our world as we know it would be alot better place to live in. There was a different set of law's back in those day's as compared to today. You could actually been hung for stealing a horse. You could of had to defend yourself from death from someone who felt slighted and challenged you to  a gunfight.

What if I didn't live in the United States.  If I lived let's say in Russia. Would I still of had all the advantages that I do today. I don't think so. It was under a different political regime. Communism was suppose to make every one equal and I think that greed got in the way. So many times greed seems to be an overpowering influence in every one's culture. Some people are not satisfied with being equal or having the same as everyone else. Some people want to wield all the power or to have more money , in order to have the nicer things in life. Of course even in Russia where it was suppose to be equal for everyone, greed reared it's nasty head and showed the true nature of someone. Every time I see pictures of Russia it seems so bleak and without hope. I consider myself very fortunate to have been born in the United States and am still able to enjoy some of the basic freedoms that democracy brought about. If not for our fore fathers that put pen to paper and wrote the declaration of independence and the bill of rights's I feel we would of been no better off than those poor unfortunate people that live in some of the foreign countries around the world.

What if we all believed in the same god. How this world would be such a different place. How many wars are currently going on through out the world just because of some people's view on their interpretation of their "GOD". Take for example the U.S. involvement in IRAQ. Some say it's because we don't like seeing people from wherever in the world to be oppressed in our views, so we try and help but what about the flip side of that coin. The attacks on the U.S. from AL QUIEDA for example our in retaliation and in the "KORAN" They preach death to the infidels. Who says who is right or wrong.

jung typology reflection

I was quite surprised about the typology report and it's analysis on myself. I agree with alot of their analysis as I like to write about complex issues and theories and I have focused alot on the message that my writing would convey. I also agree that I have high expectations in my writing and found it easy in the past to start with an organized writing plan. There are a few items that I don't agree with but am going to try and change. It say's that I'm highly motivated and do not experience alot of procrastination. I agree with the motivation part but have found myself to be a big procrastinator in the past. This is something I intend to not do too much of and try to maintain a stronger focus on.It say's  that I have a natural inclination toward leadership and want to be in control. I couldn't agree more. I enjoyed the breakdown on the various type indicators such as stress, communication, decision making teamwork articles and hope to utilize alot of these indicators in my future writing.

My first car

My first car was a 1965 Ford Mustang. I loved that car. I had saved and saved all my money so I could buy what I wanted. Of course being sixteen and my first car , I spent more time driving than I did anything else. I had met some friends in high school that also had ford mustang's so we formed a sort of mustang club. Each one of us trying to prove that we had the fastest car. I spent all my money that I received from my job into that car. A new paint job, new tires and wheels and all the newest gadgets I could afford that made it go faster. Some of my best memories came from owning that car. The sense of independence I felt by having my own transportation made a smile on my face every day. The joy of driving to and from school, to and from my job or anywhere else my heart desired was indescribable. Of course with the good came the bad. My driving to say the least was not always legal. I loved to go fast and to always push the limits of my car and unfortunately the local police seemed to love giving me speeding tickets. I think that I had three my first year.

United States Navy

I entered in the Navy when I was seventeen. The year was 1978. After completing boot camp in San Diego I was sent to Orlando Florida for my technical school. I finished first in my class with a gpa of 98.7. My reward for finishing first was I could pick any duty station in the world and I chose Pearl Harbor ,Hawaii. Being someone who loves the sun and the beach , I couldn't think of any better place I  would of wanted to go. I spent a total of four years on the island of Oahu and loved every minute of it. I can still remember the first time I stepped off the plane. The smell of the ocean, the warm tropical breeze blowing on my face and the brilliant green foliage seemed all to surreal to me. As I boarded my ship for the first time, I remember seeing the Arizona memorial from across the harbor. I had seen pictures of the memorial in history books and movies but to see it in person I felt a wave of  emotions overcome me. I was actually standing in the same spot where so many servicemen and women gave there lives in defense of their country. A sense of patriotism swept thru me like never before. I had a sense of responsibility to those that gave their lives before me

BACK TO 1965

AS I SAW THE LINCOLN LOG ,MY MEMORIES OF MY YOUTH OVERWHELMED ME. I'M PROBABLEY ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE IN THIS CLASS THAT CAN ACTUALLY REMEMBER THIS TOY AND RECIEVING IT FOR CHRISTMAS AND PLAYING WITH THEM. YOU COULD LOSE YOURSELF FOR HOURS CONSTRUCTING WHATEVER YOUR IMAGINATION COULD DREAM BUT WITH ONLY ONE RULE. THAT LOGS CAN ONLY FORM STRAIGHT LINES AND NOT CIRCLES OR ANY OTHER SHAPES. THAT NEVER LET ME AND MY BROTHER SLOW US DOWN WHEN PLAYING WITH THEM. IT USUALLY ALWAYS TURNED OUT THAT WE HAD CONSTRUCTED SOME SORT OF OLD WESTERN TYPE FORT AND THEN WITH OUR IMAGINATION PROTECT THAT FORT FROM THOSE RAVENOUS ATTACKING INDIANS. YEARS AGO AND I MEAN MANY YEARS AGO WE AS A CULTURE WERE LIMITED BY THE TECHNOLOGY THAT WAS AVAILABLE TO US AT THAT POINT IN TIME. THE YEAR WAS APPROXIMATELY 1965 SO TRY AND REMEBER WE DIDN'T HAVE 1% OF WHAT IS AVAILABLE TODAY. SO WE HAD TO RELY ON OUR IMAGINATION ALOT MORE AND BY DOING SO IT GAVE US A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE ON LIFE. THE POSSABILITIES WERE ENDLESS. REMEMBER AT THAT TIME THERE WAS THE VIETNAM WAR, THE PROTESTERS FROM ALL ACROSS THE NATION SAYING MAKE LOVE NOT WAR. THE DRUG CULTURE OF THE SIXTIES WAS IN FULL STEAM. WOODSTOCK, THE FIRST MAN ON THE MOON IN 1969, THE PROTEST MARCHES OF WOMEN BURNING THEIRS BRAS IN ORDER FOR THERE ATTEMPT FOR EQUAL RIGHTS ...
